The 20th week anniversary of Baby D was spent at sea on a giant boat called the "Navigator of the Seas". Week 20 proved to be an interesting week! As week 19 wrapped up, I ended up quite ill with the stomach bug Mike contracted the week before. Unfortunately, it hit me the same morning we left for our cruise, making us run late to the airport and making for one very miserable day of travel for both Mike and myself (and probably Baby D). As I vomited repeatedly, Mike just kept announcing to strangers that I was pregnant to keep them from thinking I had some deadly virus and should not be allowed on the plane or boat. He was super supportive, blocking the stares of the innocent bystanders who were forced to be in the vicinity of my disgusting-ness. :) I think he'll be just fine in the delivery room based on how unaffected he was by all of the vomit...
Luckily, we made it to the boat and I spent the first day at sea in the room in bed. Mike wandered the ship alone and had to eat his meals all by himself. Poor guy! Fortunately for the both of us, I was back to normal the next day! Baby D got to visit the countries of Haiti and the Grand Cayman. We stopped at Jamaica, but the conditions of the water did not permit us to get off the boat. I explained to Baby D that he/she is very lucky, as I am 25 and this was my very first experience out of the country. Baby D got to experience other lands at such a young age! We snorkeled, kayaked and did some hiking in the lands we stopped at. On boat, we enjoyed swimming, movies, shows, and food, food, food! I didn't have the opportunity to do my weekly weigh in since we were cruising. I'll update at 21 weeks (in two days) on the weight gain of two weeks! Should be a good amount, as the food was pretty delicious...
Babycenter.com says that Baby D is approximately the length of a banana on week 20. This is the week they begin measuring from the top of the head to the bottom of the foot. Apparently in previous weeks, baby was measured from head to butt, since he/she has been curled up until now. As Baby D straightens out, he/she also begins moving a lot more, which has been interesting to feel this week. The feelings I wasn't so sure about last week have become much stronger and more frequent, so I'm pretty confident Baby D is wiggling in there. Mike even got to feel a few kicks while we cruised!
Well, that's all on the life of Baby D for this week! M
