Here we are, 24 weeks progressed! Baby D is still growing at a decent rate. My scale only jumped up one pound this week! I will admit, I was a bit relieved to see that. If I continued at a three pounds a week rate, I'd be sitting around a 60 pound weight gain by the end of this! The internet tells me 25-35 is considered "normal". A little less if you were large-ish to start with, a little more if you were little-ish to start with. I'm now at 12 pounds gained. A bit of advice I read this week was to not to worry about how strange my body looks cuz I'm creating a real human in there! I thought that was pretty true and good to read.
Baby D has been very, very, very, very active this week. On Saturday, Mike and I watched a Bible quiz meet (that brought back memories). Baby D was so hyper, you could see my shirt jump when he/she would kick! It was INCREDIBLE. And... INCREDIBLY funny to me (as most things are). The poor teens getting questions wrong probably thought I was laughing at them, but I swear it was at my belly! Last night, I had a really hard time falling asleep because Baby D wouldn't quit moving around. She/he was apparently having a difficult time getting comfortable for the night. When I did fall asleep, I had a VERY strange delivery dream where Mike left the hospital to run an errand for his dad and the doc did not show up to deliver my baby. So, my mother and my sister did it. And my mom could not figure out what the gender was of the poor child, but knew that she wanted nothing to do with it if it was a boy. (After much debate, we decided it was a girl, so she was happy.) Right after I had the child, I walked around announcing that everyone had lied to me and there was no pain involved in childbirth. Yes, a very strange dream indeed.
According to babycenter.com, Baby D has gained approximately 4 ounces since week 23. They don't really give good weight and length estimates at this stage of the game... Just somewhere near a foot and a bit over a pound. Which is where I feel like we've been for the last few weeks... They compare Baby D to an ear of corn this week (go Iowa!). He/she is developing taste buds and the lungs are creating the branches to enable breathing to occur outside of my body. This week also compares my uterus to the size of a soccer ball! :) I can now only fit into one pair of my dress pants. The rest I just wear unbuttoned with my belly band and a hair tie. So far, that has worked marvelously. I do believe I will bust out some of the actual maternity jeans I got from my very helpful sister (from her very helpful sister in-law). My jeans are just getting way too uncomfortable!
At school, students are full of questions and tips on how I can know if it's a boy or a girl. They ask me to do ridiculous things and then tell me whether it means I'm having a boy or a girl. A couple of the girls feel like it is rude to have a conversation with me without acknowledging Baby D, so they will say "hello" and "goodbye" to "bun" whenever they see me in the halls. I find it a bit odd that they bend over and talk to my stomach, but I have assured them that Baby D will not be responding and they still do it. Oh middle schoolers... :) I have also had a few of the girls give me their babysitting qualifications. Good to know that I have options out there!
Well, that's all on the pregnancy for this week. Thanks for reading up on Baby D!
