Baby D is now at 23 weeks! She/he continues to make phenomenal growth according to my scale... Although I don't think Baby D is growing as fast as my belly seems to be! This week was another 3 pounder for me, making my total 11 pounds! YOWSERS. I feel ginormous! On the flip side, my runs have still been feeling really good (aside from having to urinate).
Baby D, also, seems to be feeling great, dancing all over my insides. Most days, there are only a couple of hours during the day that I don't feel like my insides are punching bags. And the child is little right now. What is going to happen when she/he is 5, 6, 7 pounds? Broken ribs!? Punctured lungs!? Mike was weirded out by the strength of Baby D's kicks on his hands the other night, I found that to be amusing! Anyway... I am pretty sure I felt hiccups for the first time over the weekend. I kept thinking I was feeling my heart rate in a very strange location. After a few minutes of that, I was getting super annoyed because it seemed to be skipping every now and then. So, I decided to check my pulse in my neck and my heart rate was totally different than the heart rate I thought I was feeling. Upon a google search, I discovered that Baby D was probably hiccuping. Strange!
Babycenter.com's update of Baby D: Baby D is now about the size of a large mango (about a foot long). He/she can feel my movements easily and is becoming much more accustomed to sounds outside my body. According to babycenter.com, Baby D will probably be so accustomed to these noises that the dog barking won't even phase him/her when he/she is outside of my body! That's a relief! :)
In the last week, my students at school have learned of my upcoming arrival. The day we returned for Christmas break, there was a lot of 7th grade whispers about how I had grown. I could tell they were stuck between "baby in there" and "too much cheesecake over Christmas break in there". I let them turmoil over the situation for the day and the next day posted this in my room:

Most of the students understood the implications here. I did get a few "is that a honey bun?" and "did you take that picture of your oven?". The can was intended to keep students on track during class, so that I would not have to field all of their questions. In the can, I've gotten mostly name suggestions (their own, of course). I've also gotten these comments and questions:
*Do you have a name picked out?
*Is it a boy or a girl?
*Is your bun cherry-filled or chocolate-filled?"
*Who will be our sub when you leave?
*Can you name it Valey or Hanessa?
*Did you know seafood will guarantee your baby is smart? So eat crab legs.
*How long has it been in there for? (When he learned that "it" had been in there for longer than the amount of time he has been in the 7th grade, his comment was "AND YOU RAN CROSS COUNTRY WITH US!? WHAT WERE YOU THINKING?! THAT HAS TO BE SO BAD FOR YOU!" :)
Well, week 23 was a long post! Seems like Baby D has a lot going on these days! Thanks for reading up!
